In Florida they use a "closed primary" system; this allows Democrats and Republicans to use taxpayer money to decide which of their own party members they want to have in office.  For example, there may be three or more Democrats running for an office, but under the closed primary system only one will be allowed to run in the general election, and only the Democrats pick who that is.  The same goes for Republican candidates.  This system prevents anyone who is neither a Republican nor a Democrat from voting in a Primary election, Why has no one changed this?  Because it protects the Republican and Democratic parties, making sure their candidates have to toe the Party line in order to have a chance at office.  It's time that Florida makes this an Open Primary State, where everyone can vote for the candidate of their choice, and maybe even handle the entire election in one pass, saving a lot of money.  I am going to ask each candidate in the Governor's race to join me and support Open Primaries in Florida, And to stop denying us our right to vote in every election

Our current system of property taxes punishes the citizens of Florida every time we make an improvement to our homes.  If you buy a nice lot, and put a nice home on it, you pay property taxes for the real value of the property.  Now add a fence or a swimming pool, and WOW, your property taxes go sky high!  Enough already! My proposal is simple,... if you buy a nice lot and build a nice home on it, you pay the taxes on the real property value, - lot and home.  Then, if you install a fence or swimming pool later on, or a driveway, you only pay taxes on the original value, as long as you are living in the home and it is your primary residence.  For any additional properties you own, the taxes would be adjusted to reflect the real property value at the time of collection, and if you buy a new home with the pool and all the extras added by the previous owners, expect to pay the real property value at the time you purchase it.  This simple plan stops the Government from punishing us for improving our standard of living, without losing the revenue from commercial/investment properties.

Gerrymandering, what is gerrymandering? It is the ability of the ruling party in the Florida State legislature to set the boundaries at times of redistricting, i.e., choose what they want the boundaries to be.  For example, the last time redistricting came about, the Republican Party defined the areas that had the most registered Republicans, and it worked, - for them.  Only We The People were left out in the deal.  Here we can make real change.  Let's ask all of the Candidates for Governor to support making redistricting the choice of a citizens' advisory group, and based on the Population of the area, and not a particular Party.

About the Criminal Justice System,...this just does not sound right! Why are WE paying for the criminal justice system?  I propose that the criminals pay for the Criminal Justice System.  I know this will take some time to achieve, but if we start now, it can be done.  I know that no matter how much the criminals pay, We will always have to pay something, but it doesn't make sense to have the innocent subsidize the guilty.

I propose ending the so called plea bargain deals that let criminals walk instead of doing their time; especially for politicians who betray the public trust.  No more pardons.

Fixing what’s broken

To anyone concerned! I have done my best to spread the word, about just how bad our two major parties really are, Like right here in Florida, the Republicans have been in control for almost 13 years, Republican Governors and Republican controlled Legislature, The so called (Conservatives) and have they represented us, hell no not one damn bit, Special interest Hell yes! However! Again today in Lake City Florida, I see a large sign with a lot of people standing around it that says, Vote Liberals out in 2010 by Liberals they mean Democrats, and the group says that they are (WE the People) anyone can say that we are (we the People) Is this the pot calling the kettle Black! Neither of these two parties has represented us the real (We the People) in many years, and yet both of these parties goes to great lengths to brain wash so many good honest people into thinking that they are the right party to continue to represent us!  When will the real (We the People) wake up and see how screwed up this whole thing really is,  Just look at the newest party on the block The Tea Party, or Republican party with a twist, The I Cuscus group, or Republican party with a twist, and how many more of these so called We the People groups can we stand, that say one thing but mean another, do you think for one minute that the Tea Party grew so fast going from one State to another, because that is what the people wanted, or do you suppose that maybe Rich republican money helped spread the word, I just can not believe that the real (We the People) would even consider for one minute joining in with a group that will only bring more Democrats and Republicans to Office,  The sign should have read (No more Democrats or Republicans) in 2010/2012 Or we can just keep putting up with the same old same old, Can you think for yourself?

Peter Allen is a candidate for Governor of Florida, who speaks his mind.

In the summer of 2001, in Riverview, Florida, several friends got together and formed an ad-hoc committee to study the merits of forming a new political party in Florida.  Later that year, this committee became The Independence Party of Florida.  At that time it had ten registered members; Now just over nine years later, it has 63,527 members (as of the November 8, 2008 count).  This growth was achieved with no paid advertising, no bank account, no private funding, ...only word of mouth.  It just goes to show that it does not take a lot of money to do what is right.  One of the primary founders of the Independence Party of Florida, Peter Allen, is running for Governor of our great state, with the same conviction that fueled the creation and growth of his party:  that you can run a winning campaign without breaking the bank or being  influenced by special interests.
Help us make Real Change in Florida's political landscape.  Support Peter Allen for Governor!
